How I recently handled JWs at my door
by Christian guy inthe jws stopped by my house a couple weeks ago on a saturday morning.
i knew that with others most likely waiting for them out in the car they probably did not then have much time to engage in any serious conversation.
so i let them talk while i feigned interest in what they had to say.

No, you actually are arrogant.
The believers on this forum are still believers despite having their faith tested and their reasoning questioned at every turn. It must be tiring, but in a way it is respectable. It'a good to be confident in what you believe and be able to field questions and remarks from people like us, who have facts and reason on our side. As far as the creation/creator argument goes, it has been discussed at length on this forum. Eventually the Christians get tired of trying to present false facts and flawed logic. They retreat to the unprovable, unknowable realm. Always the same.

Cofty, Christian Guy is just afraid to have his "strong technical evidence" dissected piece by piece and systematically disproven. If he were to post it, regardless of how "technical" it is by nature it would be disproven. It has nothing to do with "wanting to believe." what he is saying is that "wanting to believe" means wanting to believe something that is provably false.
But... You already knew that. It's too bad, I was hoping we had a creationist who would actually reply to his own thread unlike some other threads of late......

Why Eve sinned (WT 8/2013)
by EdenOne inadamah brought up in another thread an issue i wasn't aware of, and i thought it merged well with something i've been pondering about.
it revolves around the deeper reasons why satan was successful in persuading eve to eat from the forbidden fruit.
why was eve persuaded to disobey god?.

So, Eden... When did humans get souls? Did gawd inject Adam and Eve with souls right after he made them?

Probably the most bizarre encounter with a witness family.
by Dis-Member inwent to a bar with a friend a few days ago.. we were sitting in the outside garden and i went back inside to get another round.
on my way back out i passed some tables with a family of about 6 or 7 people sitting and celebrating a birthday.. i overheard the name jehovah mentioned and i stopped and asked if they were witnesses to which one of them replied 'yes'.. we got into conversation about the latest watchtowers and the governing body.
none of them had a clue what i was talking about.. they new nothing of the 8 men brooklyn being the faithful and discreet slave, nothing about c.t russell or rutherford, nothing of how jesus came and selected them as his chosen people in 1914-19, in fact the only thing they knew about 1914 was that that was when the first world war started, nothing about malawi and mexico, never heard of candace conti or any of the sex abuse scandals, nothing about the 2 witness rule, nothing about the elders being chosen by the holy spirit, nothing about 'new light', nothing about the orgs involvement with the un, nothing about the blood fractions changes they knew almost nothing at all about the majority of their own organisations core teachings.

The sad part is that while they seem to be very liberal and half of them will probably never get baptized... They all are likely damaged by the cult in one way or another. Rebelling against the restrictive rules is one thing, but a lifetime of studies, meetings and assemblies has likely left them all with baggage that they won't be able to figure out. They will have huge amounts of guilt later on in life.

My mind was open to the idea of a god for a very long time. In fact, when I woke up and realized that JWs don't preach truth, I intentionally put off learning about natural history so I could learn more about the bible and Christianity.
Then inevitably my interests pointed toward real truth, not just truth in regard to the bible. A Christian has to assume the bible=truth, otherwise there is no point. I read many books, followed many threads, watched many debates. There is only one possible conclusion: the case for a deity in the sky is far too unconvincing to warrant committing myself to. And if god is real, and he is the Judeo-Christian God, then he does not deserve worship based on his book.
We humans are our only hope. This life is all we have. I was hoping your "evidence" would be able to start a new thread where we get to debate at length. All we usually get are some arrogant creationists who have nothing to say, and just promote some book or post some pseudoscientist clown on YouTube. You seem well versed in the scriptures and convinced enough to give it a good try. So far, facts and evidence always win.
In any case, welcome to the forum! We welcome all types here. Please feel free to share some more of those golden tricks for reasoning with JWs.

Excellent line of reasoning with JWs.
We atheists are not swine or dogs. We are people who only accept evidence. We use reason and logic, and therefore can't accept fairy tale explanations for where we come from.
In another thread, please share your "evidence" that Jesus is real, and created anything at all.

The bible condemns Christian religions that teach, Wait!
by Crazyguy inknow where in the bible will you find christian religions being condemned for teaching the trinity or hell fire doctrines, but you will find jesus condemning those that come as messiah's or christs (both mean anointed) and declaring 'the time is near'.
you will also find paul cursing anyone that preaches a gospel different then the apostles preached as well as cursing those that change or add to the bible.
oh darn jw's thats you, you fit the bill in all of these!!!!!!

Some people don't like when all the attention is supposed to be on someone else. They'll always do something to get attention instead. Go out with your girls, or on your own. Maybe pick someone up who doesn't feel they own you?
